Library Birthday Club Form - Books
Hello West Parents,
I hope you had a good Spring Break, with some time for your family to be together and play together. I look forward to seeing many of you at our first Parent’s Day on April 26th and our Staff Appreciation Lunch on May 16th.
I’d like to thank all of you for making our children’s drop off time proceed safely and smoothly this year. Some of you are arriving a few minutes earlier to beat the rush, and everyone is driving carefully through the drop off lane. I enjoy seeing you each morning, as you drop off your students. And it is heartwarming to see our cheery 5th grade traffic team energetically greeting the parents and students in each car.
I hope that you will be able to attend this year’s Parent’s Day on Thursday, April 26th. We’ll be able to observe and to participate in our students’ day. It is structured flexibly, so that parents can decide which classrooms they will join that morning. We’ll have coffee and breakfast treats in the MPR from 8:00 to 8:30. Parents can then go to their children’s classrooms and participate in the lesson from 8:30 to 9:45. When recess starts at 9:45, parents can join their children at play. From 10:00 – 11:00, parents are in the MPR for a Parent Group meeting, with time at the end for socializing. The Parent Group meeting agenda includes Dr. Adams and I providing updates on recent happenings at West, Superintendent Ranii discussing HCSD goals and budget decisions, and the election of West Parent Group officers for next year. See you on April 26th.
Remember, if you haven’t had a chance to volunteer at least once this year, you still have time. If you’re not sure how you can help, just check with your room parents. And of course, attending our Staff Appreciation Lunch on May 16th is an additional way to support our outstanding West staff members.

Thanks to the countless time, effort and energy invested by the incredible members on the West Parent Group Nominating Committee this year, we are delighted to present a group of dedicated, enthusiastic and committed leaders for the West Parent Group Executive Board Nomination Slate for 2012-2013. My hearfelt thanks goes to Kris Peay, Regine Rogers, Ana Schaffner, Anu Hoey, Janet Andrews, Nancy Huang McCormick, Ingrid Kitahata & Gilbert Wai for graciously serving on the nominating committee this year.
The nomination process began in January with the selection of the nominating committee according to West Parent Group bylaws, and nomination forms were made available in the West School office. The nomination process was subsequently publicized repeatedly in West World, and at the February Parent Group meeting, with requests for both self-nominations as well as nominations of other individuals.
In selecting the Nomination Slate, the nominating committee carefully looked at the time commitment; experience and leadership skills needed for specific positions, and considered many key factors, including representation of various grades, and representation of the diverse West community in terms of cultural and professional backgrounds.
The Nomination slate was then presented at the March 22nd Parent Group meeting, where parents had an opportunity to meet the nominated individuals and talk to them directly. The parent group will vote on the proposed slate at the Next Parent Group Meeting on Thursday, April 26th. Please note that in order to ensure that the votes of ALL west parents are included, we have scheduled this parent group meeting at 10 am, immediately following the Parents Day celebration which will take place that morning from 8:30 am to 10 am. Please note that West Parent Group's standing rules state that parents can only register their vote at a parent group meeting, and does not allow for proxy or absentee votes.
If you have any questions about the nomination process, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
and I would be happy to answer them.
I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the nominating process this year and look forward to seeing all of you at the next Parent Group Meeting on April 26th :) Proposed Nomination Slate for West Parent Group Executive Board 2012-2013
