Dear West Families,
It was wonderful to see everyone on campus during Parent’s Day! Thank you Parent Group for organizing and hosting our morning snacks! Thank you Parent Group Executive Board and Sherry Lynes for working closely together to formulate a day that was inclusive and celebratory! I also want to thank our teachers for opening up your classrooms and embracing parent participation in their morning lessons. The positive energy circulated throughout the halls of our school and students were thrilled to have their parents participate in their day!
Many of you have heard the news that West School has won the Kent Award for Operation Risk. Operation Risk is in its third year and teachers have been working hard on offering opportunities for students to stretch their thinking by expanding the parameters of expected learning outcomes. The initiative drives exploration and discovery integrated throughout the standards-based curriculum to support differentiation and offer more depth in student learning. Please join me in congratulating the West staff. The award is a testimony to the intelligence and professionalism of all who work here at West for our students.
We are now entering the last months of school and there is much to see and do! Below are some reminders and announcements that will help guide you through these final weeks of the school year.
2012 – 2013 CLASS PLACEMENTS
Every year I send out a form letter to families asking them to give input about their child(ren)’s learning to assist teachers when placing students for the following school year. Due to budget cuts, this year will be the first year that I will need to change teacher assignments. As of now, staffing changes are occurring in Kindergarten and Fourth Grade. Lina Butte will be assigned to fourth grade next year and Alice Martin will be assigned to Kindergarten. I am informing you of this change to keep you in the loop; however, this is not absolute. Any information about staffing is likely to change and I will keep you abreast of each iteration as we move through this year and on to the summer. Therefore, please focus on your child(ren)’s learning style rather than a particular teacher. If you would like to meet with me to discuss how the process is implemented or how to effectively communicate your insights, please call me (548 – 4280) to set up an appointment. Please click on thelink to access the form. Thank you.

We could not make this trip happen without your commitment. A special thank you to Lori Williams and Elizabeth Battat for being our chairs and to the 4th grade teachers for preparing their students for this year’s trip. I so appreciate all the work they have been doing ensure a successful trip for all of our 4th graders!

We will begin STAR testing next week and we will test through May 18th. We test Tuesday – Thursday, using Mondays and Fridays for make-up testing. Good attendance during these two weeks is very important. Please try not to schedule doctor appointments during test taking days, and please arrive on time to prevent classroom interruptions. Thank you.

It is a fun way to be involved and to stay informed about programs related to Crocker’s academics and the community at large. Parent members of the SSC are elected by their peers via ballot over the summer. Any interested parents are asked to fill out the attached application (copies also available in the Crocker office) and return to the school office by June 5.
